ELECTRIC LIFTING BARRIER WITH HAND GENERATOR
   
Electric Lifting Barriers are used to control the road traffic, across the Railway lines. When compared with the existing manually operated gates, these gates are modern and easy to operate. These gates consume very low power. A small hand generator can produce the power required for both barriers by simply rotating a crank at 50 to 60 RPM. These barriers can also be lifted individually with a direct crank handle with a minimum effort.

Electrically operated Hand Generator backup Lifting Barrier is an electrically operated device for closing the level crossing against road traffic and comprises of an electric motor, operating mechanism, circuit controller, manually operated hand generator, road signals, audible device, boom etc.

The system meets the RDSO specification No. RDSO SPEC.NO. RDSO/SPN/180/2005 WITH AMD. APPROVED BY RDSO, LUCKNOW
  • Level Crossing: That section of a road where the railway track crosses it at the same level.

  • Hand Generator: The generator unit along with very low maintenance gear drive unit capable of delivering power to operate Electric Lifting Barrier.

  • Operating Mechanism: Consisting of clutch, reduction gear, boom shaft and suitable locking device.

  • Boom: That part of the lifting barrier which in horizontal position prevents passage of road vehicles across the level crossing. The total length of the boom shall in maximum 4 section (depending on total length) joined by nuts and bolts for easy replacement. The length of the boom of the lifting barrier shall be approx 16/24/32 fts as per the requirement. The boom is painted with luminous stripes (reflective tape) alternately with 300-mm bands of black and yellow colour. The Lifting barrier shall have two booms, one across the road on either side of the level crossing , operated by independent mechanism

  • Snubbing Device: A device employed, apart from the clutch, to minimize the physical shock due to stopping the mechanism at the end of its stroke.

  • Direct Crank Handle: An appliance by which electrically operated lifting barrier may be operated manually by hand at the mechanism.

  • Control Panel: A selector toggle switch is on the panel to operate either in Auto mode or Manual mode. In Auto mode red push button used for closing the barriers & green for opening. In Manual mode both the barriers are closed/ opened by rotating the crank handle.

  • Gear Mechanism Case: A weather proof case is provided to protect the driving motor, Gear box and circuit controller from rain and sun. Whenever the barrier is required to open/close manually direct crank handle can be inserted into the gear box. The mechanism is such that during opening/closing even though the barrier stops in between it stops at the same position without slippage to prevent accidents.

  • Circuit Controller: A seven segment circuit controller is used for sequential control of road signal, hooter and the barrier motor. The rotating movement of this controller is linked with the barrier itself, so that at totally horizontal (close) position or at totally vertical (open) position the power to the motor, which operates the barrier, should be cutoff.

  • Solenoid Lock: During closing operation as soon as the boom reaches horizontal position the boom tip rests on this lock post and locks with the spring loaded taper lock knobs automatically, which are projected from the lock body. When the green open button is pressed on the control panel these knobs are released by the solenoid provided at the back side of the lock and allow the boom open.
 
OPERATION OF LIFTING BARRIER:
 

The operation of the Lifting Barrier shall take place in the following sequence:

  • Open the detection contacts and simultaneously unlock the boom.
  • Move the boom
  • Lock the boom in the full horizontal or vertical position and simultaneously close the detection contacts.
 
ADVANTAGES
 
  • Gear mechanism is totally oil selected for smooth operation and operates at high speed ratio to ensure smooth operation of barrier.
  • The Gear mechanism is such that, the boom connected to the Gear mechanism won't slip during the operation to ensure the safety of the trespassers.
  • A manual lock release knob is provided to release the lock during manual operation.
  • Lock knobs are of brass to minimize were & tear and rusting.
  • Boom is made with 3mm aluminum sheet and joined with 5 mm thick plates, to make it rigid, to with stand the road traffic.
 
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
 
  • The Barrier operates with 24 V DC, at 3 amp rated current.
  • 24 V DC Low maintenance PMDC motor has been used.
  • 16 amp MCB used for motor protection.
  • Only 10 sec time needed to close or open the barrier
  • 2.5 sq.m. cables are been used for total wiring for minimum voltage drop.
  • All the electrical components are as per RDDSO approved vendors list.
