DESTINATION BOARD DISPLAY SYSTEM
 
INTRODUCTION:

Previously, the destination boards indicated the names of origin and destination station with arrows in dual directions. It created a lot of confusion among passengers about the direction of the Train. Hence a unique system has been developed by which the passengers can easily identify the train Destination.

This system is for the microprocessor based destination board display system using Global Positioning System (GPS), LED technology for display boards and VHF for communication and remote control.

This system uses GPS technology for locating the coach and calculating kilometer run by the coach on per day basis.



The system meets the RDSO specification No. RDSO/2009/CG-01 Rev-01. APPROVED BY RDSO, LUCKNOW

FEATURES:
  • The information such as train number, train name, destination and starting station along with direction of journey and coach commercial abbreviation are displayed on the destination board which are important for passengers boarding at the stations.

  • This system comprises of


  • a.    One Number of Master Destination Display unit which shall be mounted outside the coach for viewing by embarking passengers at the platform itself.

    b.    One number of Slave Destination Display unit which shall be mounted on the other side of the coach to enable viewing either by passengers in adjoining platform or in train parked there

    c.    Two numbers of DC-to-DC converters (110v to 12v ) for providing power supply to the Master and Slave Destination Boards


    d.    Two numbers of VHF wireless remote control/programming units per rake for data entry/programming by C&W staff to the master/slave destination display systems.

  • The 100 Train routes along with GPS parameters/display images shall be loaded from PC to VHF remote unit through relevant RS 232 port.
  • The LED Destination Display Units mounted on the train coaches can be controlled by sending a single radio command from the Programmable remote control unit.
  •  The master control unit can communicate through VHF wireless media to and fro from remote control unit for transferring data at the speed of 1200 bauds.
  • Each Display Unit is identified digitally with an alpha numeric character of the coach number like “SC 00245”.
  • Train route selection on coach control units shall be done using remote unit.
  • Whenever it is required to replace /edit the existing data base on coach control unit, it shall be possible using remote unit either by wireless or wire mode.
  • The LED destination display unit shall be wall mounted with 1.6 mm thickness of robust MS casing to IS:2062 grade Fe410WC of 1220 mm X 220 mm X 75 mm size (with 5 mm round amber colour Diffused LED display of 16x128 matrix) and 8 mm pitch.
  •  The Destination Board uses super bright amber colour LEDs of uniform intensity for longer visibility.
  • The Radio receiver built in the lED display unit receives the radio signals through the remote control unit through a VHF radio modem.
  • Master destination board controls slave destination board through Rs-485 communication.
  • Remote unit indicates any LED display unit failure at the time of operation.
 
ADVANTAGES
  • The remote is capable to retrieve recorded messages of coach health from coach control unit required for maintenance staff
  • Total kilometers covered by the coach since it’s starting can be computed and logged in the memory on the basis of GPS for enabling maintenance planning
  • The illumination of the amber colour LEDs such that it shall be possible to read the information clearly from a distance of minimum 21 meters visibility in day time.
  • The Display in all the Boards in a rake can be changed to the desired train display with single command within 1 Km range from Remote Control Unit
  • We can easily identify the coach running status i.e the number of kilometers runs by the coach by the remote control unit.
